Unlimited Data Plan Coming for Sprint iPhone Users

The Wall Street Journal has confirmed that Sprint will be offering an unlimited data plan for the iPhone. Sprint will be the only US carrier to offer such a plan. Currently, Sprint plans on offering a $69.99 unlimited data plan with 450 minutes or a $99 plan that offers unlimited data and calls.
Sprint is hoping that this plan will help the company stand out from the other two major carriers, Verizon and AT&T. Currently, Verizon and AT&T both have tiered systems that charge iPhone users based upon the amount of data they use in each month. Sprint is hoping to snag up AT&T and Verizon users who frequently use a large amount of data.
Both Verizon and Sprint will only be using the CDMA network, which unfortunately limits data speeds. However, AT&T will not be using the iPhone 4S’ full network capabilities, at least not right away.
Sprint also is trying to tempt users from other networks to switch by offering better service coverage. In some major cities such as San Francisco, Sprint has much better call coverage then its competitors.  Plus, Sprint iPhone users will not have to deal with as much competition on the company’s network, especially in areas with a large iPhone user base.
Hopefully Sprint can attract enough users to switch over because it has been reported that Sprint agreed to purchase 20 million iPhones upfront. This will likely leave at a loss until at least 2014.

A Google-Inspired GNOME Shell Theme

If you use a Google service – whether it’s Docs or Gmail – chances are you’ve noticed that a ‘new theme’ has been rolled out across their various web apps.
On the plus side the changes offer a consistent look and style across Google’s many web apps, with minimalistic looking themes using lots of white space. On the not-so-plus side they lack contrast; all that white can be very harsh on the eyes early in the morning…

Linux Mint 11 KDE To Be Based On Debian Not Kubuntu

linux-mint-logoLinux Mint is an easy to use Linux distribution that is based on Ubuntu. One of the main advantage of Linux Mint has been its polish and ease of use. Recently with Ubuntu adopting the Unity UI, many Ubuntu users have migrated to Linux Mint.

Yesterday, the Linux Mint developers have announced that they will not base Linux Mint 11 KDE on Kubuntu. Instead, it will be based on Debian. It is worth remembering here that Ubuntu itself is based on Debian. By going to Debian directly, Linux Mint is cutting out the polish and features that Ubuntu brings.
